These boots are significantly lighter and more compact. The water-resistant layer is not a Gore-Tex membrane as is more commonly found, but rather an eVent membrane. Event is somewhat more wicking of moisture and somewhat more breathable than Gore-Tex, but it is not quite as durable as the latter material.
Having said that, when we’re putting in a lot of miles, we find that the flexibility and light weight of the Lone Peaks are more than worth it to make up for the compromise.
I think it is important to note that the most recent version of these shoes offers more support than earlier versions did. The Lone Peak Mids are unrivalled when it comes to fast and light adventures that require additional support beyond what a trail runner is capable of providing.

St. Elias is a traditional boot, and as such, they have the same initial stiffness as many other traditional boots. But once they break in, you’ll have a stable boot that’s ready for any kind of adventure and has great traction. After some breaking-in, you’ll have a bomb-proof, high-quality boot that will look fantastic, feel comfy, and function well for years to come.

The Zamberlan Vioz GTX are the most long-lasting boots on our list since they are constructed using some of the materials that are considered to be of the finest quality available. The thing is that I was taken aback by how comfy the Vioz are, considering their tank-like construction and the fact that they are the heaviest boots on our list.
